The boxy design of this 1943 home needed a new plan that would remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room. After installing new window pane doors the combination kitchen and dining room has plenty of natural light and guests can freely move around in this much more open space. Mostly it happens because the homeowner wants to get something new or to follow the trends. After host hilary farr s redesign the new kitchen is located where the dining room once was.

The hodgepodge layout and constricted flow of this before kitchen was pretty typical of mid to late 20th century houses and the kitchen was cut off from the family room. During construction the original 12 10 foot kitchen which housed only one small window was opened to an adjacent room creating a 26 12 foot space.

A fun chalkboard wall adds whimsy to the space and brand new white cabinets present a nice contrast in the space. A center island features double sink basins and a casual spot for family dining.
