D through f are the most valuable ratings but i which is in the near colorless range is still considered a good color rating.
Best color diamond rating.
For the best value in what would appear to the naked eye as a colorless diamond look for g j diamonds.
However it s a little more complicated than that.
The d color grade is the highest quality color grade a diamond can receive and can reasonably be called the best color for a diamond.
The naked eye won t be able to detect the slight tint of yellow in a set diamond several grades lower.
However there are times when the best color grade to buy is actually one with a yellowish tint.
The highest grade for diamond color is d or completely colorless.
But these ratings are determined by expert gemologists comparing against a set of master stones.
Colorless diamonds allow more light and so show more sparkle and fire than other diamonds.
This short video explains the gia color scale and how gia classifies a diamond with a letter grade from d to z by comparing it to masterstones representing the color grades on the gia scale.
For example if you are buying a yellow gold setting or looking to get a vintage design diamond ring i would recommend getting lower color diamonds in the i j and k range to complement the setting.
Because color is easier to detect in larger diamonds opt for g h in diamonds over 1 carat and i j for those under 1 carat.
